Michele Acton is to step down from her role as Chief Executive of the RSM this summer.
Joining the RSM as CEO in May 2019, Michele has led the RSM through a significant number of changes, including launching a new strategy, steering the Society through the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent stabilisation of the organisation.
Michele Acton will leave her role as RSM CEO this summer
Michele has been elected as the next Principal of St Hugh’s College, Oxford. She will depart in the summer ahead of taking up her new role in September 2025.
Reflecting on her time at the RSM, Michele commented:
“The RSM is a unique organisation that brings together people from different professions across many medical specialties and at all stages of their careers. It has been a privilege to work with dedicated members, volunteers, staff and supporters who are all united in wanting to advance health. Over the last six years there have been challenges, some expected and some not, but to all of these, the response has been magnificent. I have really enjoyed being part of such a wonderful and engaged community. This makes me feel very sad to be leaving but I know that there is a great team in place who will ensure the future success of the Society.”
Professor Gillian Leng CBE, President of the Royal Society of Medicine said:
“Michele has been a fantastic colleague and I will hugely miss her wisdom, calm advice and extensive knowledge of the Society. She steered the RSM through some of the most challenging times in its history, and has worked tirelessly to bring the RSM back to a stable financial position following the pandemic. We will all be extremely sad to see her go and wish her every success for the future.”
The appointment process for a successor will begin in March.
