8 March sees the celebration of International Women’s Day, a vital moment to recognise the achievements of women everywhere and an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the amazing women in our community who work together to make a difference in healthcare.
The RSM is a wonderfully diverse community of members, partners and collaborators who work together towards our vision of better healthcare for better lives, championing equal opportunities for all.
This International Women’s Day we’re celebrating some of the women responsible for the day-to-day running of the RSM and key to making it what it is today.
The RSM library has long been a member favourite, serving as a deep trove of knowledge and research for anyone no matter what stage of career they are in – the library would not be what it is today, if it weren’t for some of the amazing women upholding the highest standards.
Information Specialist Beata Coffey and Library Customer Services Manager Polly Clint have been supporting RSM members in their learning and research for a combined total of 40 years.
“No day is the same and the variety of enquiries we receive from members is something I relish most about the job. It’s a privilege to aid in whatever way I can to members' development and learning at all stages of their career.” Polly Clint, Library Customer Services Manager
“I feel incredibly proud of my contribution to so many educational events and supporting our members' clinical and research needs with comprehensive literature searched throughout the years at the RSM. The freedom the RSM has given me to continually develop my professional skills keeps me here as well as the many wonderful colleagues I work with or have worked with.” Beata Coffey, Information Specialist
She and her colleagues take charge of an eclectic range of books, journals and letters, some dating back to the 18th century. Some of the library collections are important historical artefacts, perfectly preserved by Polly and the library team.
Front Office Manager Sarah Longman oversees the day-to-day running of the Front of House Team for the RSM Club and hotel, Domus Medica.
“Helping our members and the customer service aspects of my role are what I enjoy the most. Being with the members makes the job rewarding.” Sarah Longman, Front Office Manager
Joining the RSM seven years ago as Front of House Receptionist, Sarah enjoys meeting members from all over the world. Sarah revels in working in the fast-paced environment of the Club and leading a large front-of-house team. Sarah’s tireless commitment and attention to detail means that our members always feel comfortable and well looked after when they come to stay.
Membership Manager Karen Clark has been with the RSM for over 40 years, she is responsible for looking after our current members and speaking to prospective members about the benefits of joining.
“So many things have changed over the years, too many to mention, but one of the reasons I have stayed for so long is the uniqueness of the RSM. I do feel that it’s the members and staff, both past and present, that make the RSM what it is, and I have made some life-long friends over the years.” Karen Clark, Membership Manager
There are so many more hard-working women who make up the RSM staff team and we would like to thank every one of them for their continued hard work and dedication.
Happy International Women's day.
