A message from Professor Gillian Leng CBE and Michele Acton
As 2024 draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on all that our community has achieved over the last year, and feel inspired by what lies ahead in 2025.
2024 has not been without its challenges in healthcare. But with the unwavering support, active engagement, and commitment of our members and supporters, we have continued to drive forward our mission, to share learning and support innovation to help secure the future of both those working in healthcare and the patients they serve.
With the steadfast contributions of our 50+ member-led sections and networks, we delivered over 200 educational events supporting the full spectrum of medical specialities, alongside an impressive range of public lectures tackling key topics affecting the sector, such as AI and health inequalities.
JRSM, the RSM’s journal, was recognised in 2024 as one of the world’s top ten general medical journals for the first time - an accolade underscoring the global impact of our commitment to advancing knowledge sharing.
These are just some of our 2024 highlights. And as we look ahead to 2025, we know that further challenges and opportunities await us.
The critical issue of health inequalities will take centre stage at our third annual event, Tackling Health Inequalities: Health is Wealth, in partnership with NHS England on 28 January 2025. Innovation continues to reshape healthcare, from AI to transformative technologies, and we recognise the changing landscape and capability of systems to enable groundbreaking developments in how our members diagnose, treat, and care for patients.
Our unique position as a multidisciplinary member organisation and charity, afford us the opportunity to provide a platform for critical conversations on these advancements and challenges, helping us to navigate together the complexities of change with insight and understanding. Our Great Debate series will continue into 2025 enabling the conversations that matter.
We’re inspired by the continuing dedication of our members to meet these challenges head on; to make a difference to the future of healthcare, together. Without our members and supporters none of this would have been possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and if you are not already, encourage you to get involved by becoming a member, or partner. It is only together we can achieve our vision of better healthcare for better lives.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a bright and impactful 2025.
