When Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellow Mr Ryan Cheong heads to the USA and Singapore towards the end of 2023, he will be spending time at the birthplace of sleep medicine and surgery, Stanford University, and witness at first hand the performance of the anterior palatoplasty and expansion sphincter pharyngoplasty procedures by their inventor at the Asia Sleep Centre.
Mr Cheong has recently completed higher surgical training in rhinology, facial plastics and tertiary sleep surgery at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals in London and is looking forward to experiencing innovative diagnostic and treatment pathways in complex sleep medicine and surgery during his time overseas.
Currently an ST8 senior specialty registrar in advanced head and neck and transoral robotic surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, Mr Cheong said: “It is a great privilege to be awarded the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship.
“The opportunity to visit and learn directly from the pioneers of sleep medicine and surgery in world-leading sleep units will allow me to offer the best diagnostic and treatment options available to patients when I return to the United Kingdom.”
