In January 2024 Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellow Mr Michael Gilhooley will be heading to the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver where he will be undertaking a clinical and surgical fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology.
Mr Gilhooley is currently an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and honorary registrar (ST7) at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square.
Neuro-ophthalmology is the clinical subspecialty dealing with sight threatening diseases of the eye and brain and the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute at the University of Colorado, where Mr Gilhooley will be based, is one of the foremost centres in the world.
Mr Gilhooley said: “The award of an Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship will allow me to gain a unique clinical, surgical and research skillset at an international centre of excellence, enabling me to champion integrated neuro-ophthalmic care and effective research on my return to the UK.”
