We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dame Clare Marx CBE, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Former President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and former chair of the General Medical Council, Dame Clare was the first woman to hold both positions.
Speaking on behalf of the Royal Society of Medicine, Professor Roger Kirby, President, said: “Dame Clare’s influence was inspirational, both as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon and through her remarkable skills as a healthcare leader at the UK’s foremost medical institutions. She will be deeply missed and we offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends.”
