The Royal Society of Medicine is pleased to announce three new appointments to its Audit and Risk and Finance and Investment committees.
Mr Richard Hewes has been appointed as a co-optee on the RSM Audit and Risk Committee. A Director in KPMG’s internal audit practice, Richard has extensive experience working with some of the largest charities, healthcare providers and universities in the UK, and has also worked in Australia, where he provided a range of audit and risk services to NSW state government departments.
Richard has spent many years supporting public sector and not-for-profit organisations developing their risk management frameworks and assessing control culture to improve control compliance. He is a qualified CIPFA accountant and spent ten years delivering external audits across the public sector.
Mr Chris Appleton and Mr Christopher Smith have been appointed as co-optees on the RSM Finance and Investment Committee.
Chris Appleton is an audit assurance and corporate finance specialist. Until his retirement in 2020, he was a senior partner at Smith & Williamson, a top ten accounting firm in the UK. Chris was chairman of Nexia Smith & Williamson Ltd, the firm’s audit arm, for eighteen years. He has advised charitable and other not for profit organisations on strategy, governance, compliance and board composition, as well as internal and external financial reporting. In addition, Chris was a member of the Board of Bournemouth University and a former governor of Sparsholt College in Hampshire.
Christopher Smith is Chairman of CG Asset Management Ltd and a non-executive director of Quantal RF AG. He worked in the City and has over 30 years’ experience in corporate finance and equity capital markets. He was formerly a partner of Cazenove & Co, a Managing Director - Corporate Finance of JP Morgan Cazenove, Chairman of Law Debenture Corporation plc and Deputy Chairman of Allchurches Trust Ltd.
