The RSM, in recognition of the quality and prestige associated with its education programmes, has put in place new arrangements for the awarding of continuing professional development (CPD).
Following the principles of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC), robust processes for approving and awarding CPD at the RSM will be overseen by a newly created Programme Approval Committee (PAC), chaired by RSM Dean of Education Professor Humphrey Scott.
Humphrey said: “The RSM’s heritage and experience in delivering high quality, relevant education programmes puts the Society in an excellent position to be able to offer CPD independently, now without the involvement of a Royal College. With my colleagues on the PAC, I will be reviewing all aspects of all RSM education programmes to ensure they meet the RSM’s standards and requirements.”
A unique RSM CPD code will be given to any programmes that have received approval from the PAC and this will appear on the CPD certificate which will be automatically issued after a delegate has attended an event. Delegates using the Royal College of Physicians' CPD diary will need to manually add the programme information since RSM events will no longer appear automatically.
