Our congratulations go to Professor Henrietta Bowden-Jones, President of our Section of Psychiatry, who has recently been named Psychiatrist of the Year in the RCPsych Awards 2020.
Professor Bowden-Jones is Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Brain Sciences, University College London. A medical doctor and neuroscience researcher working as a consultant psychiatrist in addictions, Professor Bowden-Jones leads two national clinics in the UK. She was recognised for her contribution at national and international level to the field of Behavioural Addictions.
During her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony Professor Bowden-Jones said: “I would like to dedicate this, the most significant award a psychiatrist can ever hope to receive, to all the doctors who have died of Covid this year whilst doing their job and to all the psychiatrists who, despite the very difficult circumstances, carried on looking after the mental health of the nation. Ours is a vocation and it is at times like these that our true calling shines through.”
Speaking to RSM Engage, Professor Bowden-Jones: “Receiving this most prestigious award in psychiatry in the same year as having taken over as President of the RSM Psychiatry Section feels like the most wonderful of timings.”
As well as leading the RSM’s Psychiatry Section, Professor Bowden-Jones is a host for the RSM’s In Conversation Live series of online events which take place each Wednesday evening.
