England’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life Bill) passed its second reading in the House of Commons on November 29 2024 and is now in the Committee stage. Various questions remain unanswered, particularly for those involved in end-of-life care, many of whom are healthcare professionals. The RSM is therefore convening a round-table discussion event in partnership with the Palliative Care Section to explore some of these questions to generate a short discussion paper. This paper will seek to capture and summarise thinking from front line experts and will be shared publicly afterwards.

The format of this focused discussion will be a friendly 'Moral Maze' scenario of witnesses and panelists, and it is an opportunity to generate insight, understanding, and perspectives from healthcare professionals, leaders, and other experts on the issues and the questions that still need exploring. We are delighted that Michael Buerk has agreed to chair our discussion.

Participants have been invited based on their expertise and varying perspectives, roles, and policy positions to enable a balance of views to be considered. Participants will be in person and audience tickets to view the livestream are now available. If you would like to suggest questions relevant to palliative care for consideration, please email them to centraled@rsm.ac.uk and we will endeavour to ensure that the key themes raised are addressed.
