Speaker's biography
Jiten is an Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. He has led the Maxillofacial Trauma department since 2016 and has a specialist interest in orbital (eye socket) surgery, skull base reconstruction, and 3D custom implants. The department in Leeds manages the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) treatment of approximately 500–650 adult and paediatric patients annually.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Leeds and completed his higher surgical training in the Yorkshire region. A consultant since 2016, he has received multiple local and national awards for innovation, 3D planning, teaching, and training. He has also worked in India and South Africa with a cleft charity and during his medical elective.
Beyond trauma, Jiten specialises in dentoalveolar and oral surgery (including wisdom teeth and tooth extractions), skin surgery, tongue-tie procedures, orthognathic surgery, and salivary pathology, including endoscopic salivary treatment. He is passionate about publishing scientific research and book chapters, as well as training future surgeons.
Recently, he gained public recognition for performing the UK’s first endoscopic skull base orbital osteotomy and tumour removal alongside his neurosurgical colleague, Asim Sheikh. This groundbreaking procedure was made possible through segmentation and 3D planning, with the support of their in-house biomedical engineer, Lisa Ferrie.
