Speaker's biography

Jiten is an Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. He has led the Maxillofacial Trauma department since 2016 and has a specialist interest in orbital (eye socket) surgery, skull base reconstruction, and 3D custom implants. The department in Leeds manages the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) treatment of approximately 500–650 adult and paediatric patients annually.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Leeds and completed his higher surgical training in the Yorkshire region. A consultant since 2016, he has received multiple local and national awards for innovation, 3D planning, teaching, and training. He has also worked in India and South Africa with a cleft charity and during his medical elective.

Beyond trauma, Jiten specialises in dentoalveolar and oral surgery (including wisdom teeth and tooth extractions), skin surgery, tongue-tie procedures, orthognathic surgery, and salivary pathology, including endoscopic salivary treatment. He is passionate about publishing scientific research and book chapters, as well as training future surgeons.

Recently, he gained public recognition for performing the UK’s first endoscopic skull base orbital osteotomy and tumour removal alongside his neurosurgical colleague, Asim Sheikh. This groundbreaking procedure was made possible through segmentation and 3D planning, with the support of their in-house biomedical engineer, Lisa Ferrie.

Frans Berkhout is Assistant Principal (King’s Climate & Sustainability) and Professor of Environment, Society and Climate in the Department of Geography at King’s College London. Over the past 25 years, his research has been concerned with science, technology, policy and the environment, with a focus on sustainable innovation and climate change.

Speaker's biography

Prof. Francesco Mannocci (MD, DDS, PhD, FHEA) is a specialist in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He obtained his MD (Pisa, Italy, 1986) and DDS (Pisa, 1990) in Italy, and his PhD in Clinical Dentistry from King's College London in 2001. After working in private practice in Pisa for 18 years while collaborating with the University of Siena as a Visiting Professor, he moved to King’s College London in 2004 and became Professor of Endodontology at King’s College London in 2011.

He has authored more than 170 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is Associate Editor of the International Endodontic Journal , Past President of the British Endodontic Society and was awarded the Louis I. Grossman International Award 2022 by the French Endodontics Society

Prof. Mannocci’s research covers subjects including the restoration of endodontically treated teeth, instrumentation techniques, dental anatomy, histology, endodontic radiology, and endodontic microbiology. He also maintains a private practice limited to Endodontics in Central London.

Consultant Oral Surgeon at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital

Speaker's biography

Mr Patel is a Consultant in Oral Surgeon at Guy's & St Thomas' hospital. He has a specialist interest in the management of oncology patients requiring treatment before, during and after their cancer care including the management of osteonecrosis of the jaw from drugs and radiation. He has treated over 1000 patients with established jaw necrosis and over 2000 patients at risk of jaw necrosis requiring dental extractions. His research is focused around dental oncology and he has more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
