Join us for an engaging, reflective and informative study day with the London School of Paediatrics introducing and exploring paediatric palliative care. The program will equip and empower doctors caring for children with life limiting conditions to have a greater understanding of the specialty, their role and how they can best support patients and families.

This study day will provide paediatric doctors an introduction and exploration of paediatric palliative care as a specialty, providing practical tips and opportunities for reflective practice, to enable doctors to provide the best possible care for children with life limiting conditions.

By attending, you will:

  • Gain a greater awareness and understanding of paediatric palliative care as a speciality, including its role, patient group and team.
  • Be able to recognise when palliative care team input may be appropriate for a baby, child or young person and communicate this sensitively with colleagues, patients and families
  • Reflect on the complex ethical factors that can present in paediatric palliative care and develop an approach to navigate these
  • Be able to care for a baby, child or young person with a life limiting condition in an acute context, understanding when to seek help and using practical tips and resources available
  • Reflect on parental experiences of paediatric palliative care and child death and develop a sensitive and compassionate approach to patients and families
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of doctors when a child dies, recognising local and national statutory processes
  • Be able to sensitively and compassionately support and communicate with families of children with life limiting conditions, including awareness of additional support services, such as hospices
  • Know about the processes surrounding organ donation and how to help facilitate the process
  • Gain a greater understanding of training in paediatric palliative care, including GRID and SPIN and learn practical tips for applications
