This meeting will provide trainees with an update on the treatment of common paediatric nephrology conditions.

Hear from expert speakers in nephrology about protein/haematuria, urinary incontinence, chronic kidney disease principles, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, nephrocalcinosis and kidney stones, and more.

By attending, you will:

  • Develop an approach to managing the child/young person presenting with proteinuria/haematuria and understand when and why to refer to tertiary nephrology service
  • Learn about the principles of bladder abnormalities and urinary incontinence
  • Develop an understanding of acute kidney injury and emergency management
  • Understand the principles of chronic kidney disease management
  • Understand the methods to correct fluid and biochemical abnormalities seen in acute and chronic kidney disease.
  • Know the indications for dialysis
  • Understand hypertension in children
    • Know the causes of hypertension and the principles of treatment
    • Interpret blood pressure measurements
  • Nephrotic syndrome
    • Understand the complications of the nephrotic state
    • Understand the principles of the pharmacological, dietary and fluid management
    • Understand the investigations including the indication for renal biopsy
  • Develop an approach to the child/young person presenting with nephrocalcinosis and kidney stones.
  • Develop an approach to managing the unwell child/young person with a background of kidney transplant.
