About this event

  • Date and time Sat 5 Apr 2025 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Location Royal Society of Medicine
  • Organised by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Join us for UMAX 2025, our long-running undergraduate maxillofacial conference, which returns in the spring. This day will feature distinctive lectures and practical hands-on workshops.

The conference provides an opportunity to hear from established oral and maxillofacial surgeons who will speak on wide-ranging topics, showcasing the variety in this specialty. The meeting also aims to provide those interested in maxillofacial surgery, including undergraduate students and post-dual qualifications, with the chance to meet with peers, trainees, and senior consultants.

This year's conference will provide an overview of head and neck oncology and reconstruction, cleft lip and palate treatment pathways, facial gender-affirming surgery, and surgical dermatology. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in consultant-led interactive surgical skills training in suturing, plating, and virtual surgical planning as well as guidance on preparing for specialty training.

By attending this meeting, you will

  • Be introduced to the specialty and the wide-ranging sub-specialties covered in oral and maxillofacial training
  • Gain an overview of Cleft Lip and Palate services in the UK and treatment pathways
  • Gain an overview of Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction and learn about the opportunities for research
  • Gain an overview of Craniofacial Surgery and treatment pathways
  • Gain an increased awareness of new Advances in Head and Neck skin cancer
  • Develop practical skills in suturing and plating that will translate into clinical practice as a junior maxillofacial trainee
  • Develop an understanding of virtual surgical planning and its applications in oral and maxillofacial surgery

The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Section: UMAX Essay Prize and UMAX Poster Prize will also be presented and awarded at the conference. The deadline for submissions is Sunday 23 February 2025.
