About this event
- Date and time Sat 5 Oct 2024 from 12:30pm to 5:00pm
- Location Royal Society of Medicine
- Organised by Medicine and Me, Crohn’s in Childhood Research Association
The Royal Society of Medicine and Crohn’s in Childhood Research Association (CICRA) are pleased to invite you to a friendly and supportive meeting for families who have a child or young adult with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis or IBDU. These families will be able to meet and chat with each other, share experiences, and hopefully build friendships and support networks during the day.
This meeting will bring together representatives from the medical community who specialise or are interested in the area of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Speakers will discuss key areas of concern to parents and families of children and young adults with IBD, including the psychological impact of paediatric IBD and and coping with IBD, the importance of diet & nutrition in IBD, latest treatments and medication, very early onset IBD (VEOIBD), latest research, and more. Following this, there will be an opportunity to take part in a question-and-answer session with experts working in specific fields of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
For teenagers attending, there is an opportunity to attend a separate discussion group, allowing them to share experiences with others of a similar age and without parents being present.
For those families who have young children, there will be children’s entertainment available to keep young children occupied during the event.
We would like to thank our anonymous donor for their generous support enabling this platform for patient focused charities and free access to the Medicine and Me series.
By attending, you will:
- Receive updates on the latest research and treatment methods
- Enhance your understanding of the psychological impact and challenges of living with IBD
- Learn strategies and skills to cope with IBD

Optional break out rooms
We very much want this meeting to be an event that all the family can enjoy, but we appreciate children and teenagers may not wish to sit through all the talks. We will therefore have a children’s entertainer and his helpers working their ‘magic’ in another room, and we encourage all the under 12’s (older welcome!) to join in with this fun group. This will run for the duration of the meeting.
For the 13 to 18 year old age group (age is a guide only), we will also be holding a teenagers group in a separate room. This informal group will be supervised by an excellent team of support nurses and medics and will be very informal, so is a great opportunity for young people to chat and share experiences with new friends, but also to ask questions of the nurses and medics. There is no set agenda for this session; it’s an ‘open house’ for teens to relax and chat.
This group will start at 2.00pm and run through to 3.30pm, but may run for longer if the teens would like it to!
