This live stream will help the participants appreciate the challenges in the treatment pathway of acute aortic syndromes from a range of internationally renowned experts.
Delegates will learn about the diagnostic challenges in the emergency department. Following this meeting, participants will understand the range of therapeutic options for ascending and descending thoracic aortic dissection including genetic assessment and surveillance.
This meeting is in association with The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust and the UK Aortic Surgery Society.
Aims for this meeting include:
Understand the impact of acute aortic dissection from the patient's perspective
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of conventional surgery compared to the use of interventional radiology as the initial treatment strategy
Appreciate the challenges of recognised treatment strategies, genetic assessment and surveillance

Application guidelines:
Submit a 250-word abstract on a case presentation. The abstract can include figures, diagrams and scans. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their paper at a Cardiothoracic meeting on Friday 17 June 2022.

Professor Heinz Jakob is born on November 4, 1953, in Munich, Germany. He attended military service in the Bundeswehr, Medical Corps from 1972 to 1974. He attended medical school in Freiburg, Berlin and Munich from 1974 to 1980.
In 1981 he wrote a thesis (‘Dr. Med’): Fibrin glue application in liver parenchymal defects (Magna cum laude). Professor Heinz Jakob attended surgical residency in the department of cardiovascular surgery in German Heart Center, Munich, Kanonsspital Basel, Switzerland and University Hospital Mainz from 1980 to 1987. He had a fellowship in the University of Chicago, Michael Reese Hospital from 1983 to 1984. German Board Certification for General Surgery in 1987, German Board Certification for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1990 and was promoted to consultant position at the department of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at University Hospital Mainz.
He wrote Ph.D. Thesis (‘Habilitation’) in 1991. Professor Heinz Jakob was a vice-chairman (leitender Oberarzt) in the department of cardiac surgery in University of Heidelberg from 1992 to 1999. He was appointed director in the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in University Hospital Essen from 1999 to 2019. From July 31, 2019, he is a professor emeritus at the University Hospital of Essen, he is also a cardiosurgical consultant in Diagnosticum GmbH, Mülheim from October 1, 2019, until now. His main interest is complex coronary surgery, thoracic aortic surgery.
